Math Resources
Math skills are vital inside and outside the classroom. If you or your student are interested in math practice beyond the school day, the following resources are great!
Apps:
Khan Academy- This can be used as a website or an app. Your student will need login information to save their progress. They may set up a personal account. At this time we do not use login account at school with this app.
Front Row Math- Your student has an account set up for classroom use. The class code is needed to login. Feel free to send me an email or ask your student to write the code down to use at home.
Xtra Math- We use this app in our classroom to practice basic facts. You can access the website with your student's PIN. They have a list of PINs in the classroom.
Non-technology Activities:
Flash Cards- Addition, subtraction, multiplication, the old school classic is a great way to reinforce basic facts. Keep practices brief and lighthearted!
Helping with cooking or shopping- 4th graders will do a great deal of work with fractions in the second part of the year, so it can be great to see how they are used in the real world. Have you child help read, or better yet, modify a recipe that uses half, third, or quarter measurements. Your student can also practice their estimation and division skills by helping to calculate the price per serving of items at the grocery store.
Reading Resources
Students should be reading for at least 20 minutes each night (or some combination adding up to around 100 minutes per week, whatever works with your schedule). It is so important for them to have regular reading practice!
The Monroe County Public Library has a partnership with the 3M Cloud Library which provides ebooks on your iPad for free! Here is the link! Many students have already set up their accounts in class. All you need is a library card to access so many e-books!
Spelling City- we will use this app in the classroom to practice our weekly vocabulary words. The login info will be available soon!
Handwriting Practice
As students write longer passages and responses, sometimes quality of handwriting can suffer. If you'd like your student to have some extra practice, here are some places to get practice pages.
